Re: F4F WILDCAT

Hmmm... $306 plus $75 shipping plus unspecified "import fees" which could be who knows what. I looked up "sold" of this kit and found 3. They vary in price from the same seller. I checked feedback and didn't see any negative relating to this model. Apparently, you buy the kit, then they print one fo...

Re: HobbyBoss 1/18 FW 190

Considering HobbyBoss issued the 1/32 A-26 with the wrong engines and the 1/32 B-24 with the wings that are FUBAR, I shouldn't have been surprised they would issue a kit with the wrong wing racks for any model of FW 190. The kit is also missing some key parts like the loop antenna and retractable st...

Re: HobbyBoss 1/18 FW 190

Found this old photo from about 6 - 7 years ago. Shows the prototype model with the single large bombs on the wings. Still not sure how the rack mounts flush to the wing. There must be one more part that goes with the rack. and not a single photo of an FW 190 of any A, G or F model with that setup. ...

Re: HobbyBoss 1/18 FW 190

After further review.... Those wing racks don't seem to be for a standard F-8. They had double small racks to carry four smaller bombs on the wings. I did find photos of similar single racks on a G and a few others for fuel tanks, not bombs. Perhaps an "R" mod might have them for big bombs? Found ze...

Re: HobbyBoss 1/18 FW 190

I already have the A-8 in progress and ready to start painting. I have an unstarted kit of the A-5. I need the fuselage hood over the guns for the F-8 and am kicking myself for not saving it for an F-8 conversion. I could easily trade the canopy hoods but I'd have to figure out what part is missing ...

Re: HobbyBoss 1/18 FW 190

Well, I just finished watching 3 YouTube videos. The first British one was as baffled as I was. The A-5 kit came with 2 bombs and two wing racks but there's nothing in the instructions about using them and no holes to attach the racks in the bottom of the wings, even if they did fit. They show up on...

HobbyBoss 1/18 FW 190

I can't help but think HobbyBoss was planning on releasing a Focke Wulf 190F based on the unused parts in their 2 versions including wing racks and bombs with nowhere to put them on the planes. I can't even figure out how the wing racks would fit flush on the bottom of the wings. Has anybody here fi...

Re: 1/18 UH-1H Huey Full Build or Kit Poll

You might find there aren't as many people looking and posting here as in years past. Facebook groups have taken over. You may get very little response. A full build of a resin 3D printed kit would be challenging. Wondering if there could be a conversion kit for the UH-1 1/18 model kit already out t...

Re: Why does the BBI P-51 have a big hole behind the radiator flap?

Our P-51D has a panel and our example has a small modern avionics blade antenna there. Odd, the BBi Mustang hanging at the Museum doesn't have a hole there.

Re: Why does the BBI P-51 have a big hole behind the radiator flap?

Hmmm... I'll look at ours tomorrow and see if I can find out what it's supposed to be representing. There are far more egregious things on other 1/18 models like the landing gear of the 21st Century P-38 not even being in the correct place on the model and gears struts molded into the gear covers on...

Re: How big should 1/18 scale aircraft get?

As long as it's made as a model and not as a toy. Being intimately familiar with our B-25, the retract system is somewhat complex with the main gear doors opening during the retract and also closing after extension. If it's like so many of the toy's examples with retractable landing gear, it will li...

Re: FOV rouses itself from slumber...!!!

It's a gift and a curse to know what details of a tank, or in my case, a plane, are totally wrong on these models. I couldn't tell you the difference between an ausf G or A or a wrong mantlet on a Panther. Or whether the hatch was wrong or exhaust was inaccurate. I have a hard enough time just spell...

Re: new FOV 1/32 Jumbo and 105mm Deep Wading Shermans

Well now that I see prices on the tiny 1/72 stuff, I guess these 1/32 prices aren't too out of line. Used to say "You get what you pay for." Now it's more like "You pay for what you get."
