21st models?

Post by mondaytanker » Fri Jan 11, 2008 10:36 am

With my back ground in building Tamiya 1/16 scale tanks. I find it difficult not to tear apart the 21st Century toys to clean up all the flashing and repaint them.

Well I gave in this week and tore apart a die cast Sherman. I removed all the gear, patched the holes, made a cover under the bustle and now I am cleaning all the flashing off of all the molded parts. I then will custom paint it with olive drab.

This got me thinking.

Would there be any interest in purchasing kits of 1/18 scale, 21st Century models?
Nothing assembled or painted. All molded parts would still be on the parts trees.
These would be a better fit for hobby stores and give guys like myself the opportunity to build the model to my liking.

I would imagine that there would be some interest. 21c offers unassembled, unpainted kits of some of the 32x aircraft, not ot mention the disassmbled kits of the 32x armor. It seems like there's quite a few armor customizers around here, including myself with a recent DAK repaint of a 1:18 Panzer IV. I'm sure there would be a market

Yes indeed.
I like the angle of shelf space vs fully assembled models. Maybe the larger planes could be made and box size would be less of an issue.

The Me-262 would be the most likely to become a 1:18 kit. I for one would be in HUGE support of that! Especially for the sake of 1:18 scale decals sheets in a couple schemes! I have custom painted a few of my 1:18 planes into brand new schemes and while it's not too difficult to do, I struggle with the fact that some options are limited with masking off exsisting markings and so fourth.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see this happen!
