I called Corgi today and asked them about their 1:18 spitfire and found out its being made by lasers cutting the plastic, the reason for the high price and limited production. However if every one calls them and bugs them about doing a 1:18 highly detailed spitfire being made for the average customer they might get the hint and make more 1:18 scale aircraft it all depends on how much interest there is. SO if you’re interested please give the ma call and tell them you want the 1:18 spitfire for around 140 US dollars.

Hey guys if you call them tell them they are heading in the wrong direction. Scrap the Spitfire and build a Huricane or Tempest. The Spit has been done.

Corgi
were the main importers of 1/18th into the UK at one point. They don't bother any more. A couple of model shops that (used to) stock the 1/8th XD Spitfire got them through Corgi, but couldn't get anything else and can't get anything new either.
The gent who runs the local shop called his distributor who said, basically, it was too much effort for them.

I'd be happy if Corgi just made an affordable 1:18 scale Zündapp KS750 Wehrmacht and BMW R75 motorcycles. Those would be enough to suit me from this company.

I would like to get at least one XD plane from the UK in the Corgi box. So far I've seen Spits, Corsairs, 190's, and Stuka's on ebay but not recently.

I think a few aircraft museums had some here in the states. You might find a board member that has one for sale.
