Hey guys I have some questions for all you custom makers

My first question is anybody know anything that i can use for barrels on a 1/18 nebelwerfer that i am hoping to make in the future. Also another question is how do you make armor wearings on the halftracks,tanks etc. I was hoping to put some battle detail on my german halftracks and tanks

So any help would be apreciated from the experts

you could use brass tubeing, I also thought about makeing one of those.

i used legs from an old TV table i had. The legs were made of hollow thin metal tubing, which turned out to be almost exactly to scale for a (five barrelled) 210mm nebelwerfer; so that's what i made. Go to a hardware store....there must be lots of thin tubing of various sizes available...something will be the right diameter for either a 150mm or 210mm nebelwerfer.

Schedule 40 PVC pipe comes in diameters as small as 1/8" which is a tad misleading because 1/8" PVC pipe has a nominal outside diameter of .405 or just a shade over 3/8ths of an inch, that might work out for XD scale barrels on the 210mm Nebel but may be too fat for the smaller 150mm version nebel, sorry but I'm no good at these conversions, so you'll have to get one of our resident math "experts" to crunch the numbers for you. The advantages of PVC pipe are that it's cheap and easy to work with, but I don't know if you can find anything that small at a hardware store like home depot etc., it might be worth a look though.

the only trouble with pvc pipe is that it is too thick walled to look realistic. Metal tubing, although harder to work with has a very realistic thickness, much like on the real nebelwerfers.

I don't know how you can make it but if your skilled challenged like me you culd always buy it. Toy soldiers of san diego (TSSD) sells a plastic unpainted one I think for 5 bucks.

Evergreen plastics has several diameter tubes . I am not sure what the dia. would be on the nuble. As stated before you can get brass tubes from all places Ace Hardeware. They have brass ,steel and aluminum as well. From about 1/8 to 3/8 .

Indeed it is. I think this piece was discussed some time back, though I can't remember exactly when. They're kinda funky looking, but considering it's the only one available that I know of, it could probably be turned in to a pretty nice model with some paint and detailing, and the price is fairly reasonable too. .....it's not bad. Needs new trails though. The nebelwerfer used the same carriage as the Pak 36 anti tank gun, so you could easily take them off a model kit, the size difference wouldnt' be very noticable.

Funny that you mention this. I was going to make one for the last contest but opted out. I thought I would make the barrels with the cardboard tubes that you get back with the dry-cleaning wire hangers. the diameter is about right but if you wanted to do it proper then you should use the plastic tubing that you can get from a model shop.
