Re: RC Plane Talk
Nice one B29 looks great well done.
Re: RC Plane Talk
Here is something a little different. An Air Tractor agricultural plane ie crop duster. Almost 18 inches long, nearly a 28 inch span. Decent replica....spinner could be a bit longer and pointier and wheels are a bit too big but not bad. Would work best as an AT-302 or an AT-400, which are the smallest Air Tractors made (the biggest model Air Tractor makes look nearly identical but are almost 40 feet long and have 60 foot wingspans.....there is even a military version). For either of AT-302 or AT-400 it works out to 1/19.6 scale, so a bit on the small side but a very unique aircraft. Shop around for a better price.

Re: RC Plane Talk
XFly Su-57 Felon. Decent camo colours and application of digital paint scheme. Smallish though, about 1/20.5.....about the size of a 1/18 F-18.

I have to say, Xfly has made some really nice aircraft. Well proportioned, decent detailing for an rc, pretty accurate colours and markings.. The Su-57, Su-27, and F-22 they make are all pretty much in scale with each other at about 1/20. Add to that the Freewing Crusader which is also about 1/20. That's a decent start to a 1/18 sub collection. Put them in a different room and you probably couldn't tell they are smaller than 1/18.

A beautiful looking SR-71. Stated scale is 1/17 but it's actually about 1/17.6, nearly bang on 1/18.

Re: RC Plane Talk
A Hawker Tempest, abut 1/16 scale. Looks pretty good. Might be fun to chase around your 1/18 Pegasus V-1 with. Note that this will be bigger than an XD Thunderbolt. They will be about the same length but the Tempest will be significantly spanier (by about 4 inches).

It’s a beautiful flyer too! Love mine. The drag chute is really cool to deploy on landing.aferguson wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2025 6:50 amA beautiful looking SR-71. Stated scale is 1/17 but it's actually about 1/17.6, nearly bang on 1/18.

Also, Dynam just announced a 1/16.4 scale E-2C Hawkeye. Looks pretty good! Will need to figure out some 8 blade props to update it to a Hawkeye 2000.

Re: RC Plane Talk
btw i have a couple of planes to add:
Xfly j-65.......nearly an exact copy of the Gulfstream 650, a business jet nearly the size of a DC-9 airliner. It's 1/17 or 1/17.1, something like that
https://www.xfly-model.com/productinfo/752686.html
FMS Beaver stol aircraft.....bang on 1/18 scale, comes in a yellow usaf SAR scheme and also a red and white civilian scheme. The white parts are unpainted foam, not sure it it will yellow over time or not. Fun little plane though.

Re: RC Plane Talk
Thanks guys! The helis are fiberglass fuselages from a guy who goes by Buamodel on Facebook. He’s based in Thailand and does amazing work. The CH-54 was converted from the firefighting version, and I built custom mechanics to fit inside the small fuselage spine.

Looks like FMS Model will be releasing a roughly 1/17.4 scale S-3 Viking:

Re: RC Plane Talk
lol.........you beat me to it. I was just about to post the news. Yes 1/17.4......fuselage works out to 1/16.6 which seems odd but it's probably just an extended rudder by about 1.8 inches. Model looks really nice.
Here's another pic of the model. Big cutouts in the rear fuselage to accommodate retractable u/c. Markings are accurate which is a rare treat on an rc plane.....not perfect but pretty good.

lol, it’s funny to me that these days I see you on RCgroups more than on here. I’m F106DeltaDart over there.

Re: RC Plane Talk
at certain times of the yeari get itchy for new planes. I go there when i itch. Usually i come up empty but the last few months have been decent. Over there my posts are largely ignored because my concerns are more model accuracy rather than flying qualities......since i don't fly these models...shhh....lol.

Re: RC Plane Talk
At least now with 3D printing it’s pretty straightforward to address some of those issues. I’ll probably design some gear goofs and maybe some semi-scale strut cover for it if I pick one up. Very few of these models are great right out of the box for scale appearance, especially at these smaller sizes where low weight is crucial.
Have you looked into the 3D printed RCs much? Lots of potential there. I think one of the designers even specifically makes his models in 1/18. Has a hand tossed Wildcat and a few others.

Re: RC Plane Talk
no i've never head of them before.......quite the selection on that link you posted. I guess you need to have access to a 3d printer though?

Re: RC Plane Talk
Yeah, you will need access to a 3D printer. But it opens the door to nearly unlimited potential. Check out the 3D printed aircraft section on RCgroups. Tons of neat stuff that all has the potential to be re-sized and printed at 1/18.

Re: RC Plane Talk
I think i've missed mentioning a couple of other models.
Flyfans 64mm F-22 Raptor. 1/17.8 scale. Very nice shape and impressive to behold. Negatives are the fact that it has retractable landing gear means there are no gear doors. The canopy is not tinted and the paint scheme, while correct, is too light in colour. All that said it's a nice looking model.
https://www.rc-castle.com/index.php?rou ... t_id=12161
Freewing BAC Lightning. Very close to 1/18, though the proportions are off a bit. Decent though unspectacular paint. Biggest drawback is that the canopy is just painted foam. It is possible that one day an updated version will be released by Freewing with a clear canopy.
