21st 1/18 King Tiger

Post by warhawker » Thu Jan 11, 2007 9:30 am

I thought I remember reading here some where that 21st will be producing a 1/18 King Tiger tank in the near future. Is that true?
If so how much bigger would the chasse be compared to the 1/18 RC panzer out there right now?

recently discussed in another thread. We are expecting to see it at some point, as it's been in the 'works' for some tim.....hopefully this year.

It would be about 20% larger than the panzer IV. No idea if it will ever be released in a r/c'd version or not.

thanks, my thought was to buy the current RC panzer at discount price, gut it and use its RC components and convert the King into an RC King.

I like your ideal. Could do the same with all thier 1/18 tanks. Would be a nice custom for ebay.

Dang..... thought there was some intel on the Tiger.
Tko said he was waiting to hear back (from 21st) on the King Tiger. I'm looking forward to this one or any armor... The new halftracks and Pak are fantastic so this Tiger should be just as good.

Whooops, sorry. :D It's a 1/16 tank. Since we don't have a pic (a good one) from 21st, I thought it would be cool to imagine what the Kingtiger might look like.

So I put an XD commander on a 1/16 Kingtiger. :D

I can see getting about 20 of these and starting my own Battle of the Bulge :D I am sure that they will do the Henchel turret, but what if they were to do both :?: Henchel and Porche :?: If not that should be an easy custom. Slap some zimmermit on to hide things and you are ready to shoot up some T-34's ,K-1's and Shermans. The Russians are the new tanks of '08 . I am telling the future here guys. They have got to sell these tanks at some time.If they do a limited production run they will sell out in about a month. That is a way off and we need to stock pile these Kings so that we are ready for the offensive

That will be the new Ace contest. Buy 4 Tiger II's and win a new custom Mause or Ferdinan :!: :!: :!: Yeah dream on. (and I will)

Great idea Pickelhaube for a tank themed contest. I would only hope that itt does not take more than 2+ years to recieve the winning tank.

Not to try and discourage anyone from attempting it, but as someone who has considerable gas and electric powered RC modeling experience I can tell you that such a conversion will not be easy to do, not impossible mind you, but it will be a pretty complex project, major surgery will be required, and many many hours of work will be involved, not the kind of thing you can expect to complete in a weekend. Don't take my word for it though, there are a number of good sites around the web that deal exclusively with RC tanks and conversions of this type, I would strongly recommend you go to one of their forums and pick someones brain about exactly what will be involved. Good luck.

Picklehaube: I really like the idea of a tank Ace contest too. With planes, it is hard for me to justify buying the same scheme over and over. But with tanks, seeing the same serial numbers and unit marks repeated doesn't seem to bother me as much. So, I am down with the armor ace idea.

and to this I say, NAW - just crack it open and start doing it!
Joking aside, I agree this will be major surgery and require alot of time, research and possible funds. What I plan on doing is documenting this process and creating a thread on the process with details, references, etc. Between the release of the 1/18 King and the start of this, I would predict that I will have alot of research done, contacts in place and possibly man will return to the moon with the way 21st do timed releases!

Again, I don't want to discourage anyone, just want to make you aware of what you'd be getting yourself in to. I used to be in to RC modeling in a VERY BIG way some years back, mostly 4WD electric cars, but a few gas powered ones as well, and I can honestly say that I would ABSOLUTELY NOT recommend a project like this for anyone who does not have advanced RC modeling skills, it would be a very technically demanding project and someone without the requisite skills and tools necessary for a project of this scope is quickly going to become overwhelmed and frustrated, and I would really hate to see anyone waste a lot of time and money on a project that is going to end up as a scrap heap. I don't have time to research it at the moment but a few people at various other sites have done conversions on 21C 1/18th scale tanks and I would strongly advise you seek out these folks and the sites that specialize in this kind of thing before even considering tackling a project like this. The othe thing to consider is that it's entirely possible, maybe even likely that 21C will make an RC version of the Kingtiger at some point, and it may be prudent (and much easier) to just wait and see if they do.

I think that you should hold off of the R/C idea. When the Mk IV came out they sold out almost instantly and still bring more money on e-bay. They did so well that they were re-issued in R/C. With about 4 paints in the long barrel and 2 in the short. The same thing will happen with the Tiger II. Be patent wait and the mountain will come to Mohamed.

If the hunger strike won't work we can go down to 21st Toys and picket outside for the Tiger II . We can make signs walk around in little circles protest hold our breath till we turn blue and pass out. I will bring the chips and dip who wants to bring the sodas? What state are they in? :?
